Magdalena Brieger
Magdalena Brieger is a is a Polish born artist painter living in York. She studied art in York and Leeds, completing an Art Foundation course at York College and gaining a BA Degree in Fine Art from Leeds Metropolitan University. She has exhibited and sold her work in art venues in York ( City Screen, the Minster Gallery and Artfulness), Harrogate and Leeds. Magdalena's paintings are semi abstract, based on images of female figures, running horses and watchful tigers and leopards. Her paintings are imbued with dreamy quality- female figures become angels with wings and horses fly, Pegasus - like, as if their natural speed was not enough. The use of bold, strong colours and liberal addition of gold and silver leaf enhances the drama. Golden eyed tigers stalk invisible prey and wild ponies are frozen in permanent motion. Acrylic is the favoured medium although she also paints in oil and forever searches for new materials, incorporating beads, glass, seashells, coins, dried flowers, as well as gold and silver leaf, into her paintings. She also undertakes commision work.
