Louisa Kemp
Louisa lives in South Yorkshire, where she completed a combined studies degree in art and design. Art has been her passion for as long as she can remember. It is what she love doing.
Louisa currently produces modern art, mainly on canvas, which is combined with her own handmade glass tiles. These are often the focus, or detail, of her work and what makes it distinctive.
Making the glass is the first step and inspires the rest of the artwork. Louisa avoids planning, allowing her mood to guide her and whatever she thinks, or feels, when the glass is complete, determines what comes next. This might be texture, pattern, colour or lines.
She quite often thinks her work has an architectural feel or the look of a cityscape. This is never intentional, but it comes from her love of buildings and design.
Louisa believes that you draw inspiration from the things around you that you see all the time, without even realising.
The unpredictable nature of the outcome from the firing, is something she has learned to both accept and love.
This is exciting and inspires her to experiment more, because each piece of glass is unique.
No two pieces of Louisa's artwork can ever be the same.
