Phil Dodsworth
Dodsworth is a local, self taught artist who is quickly gaining a reputation for his vibrant, expressive and sometimes quirky artwork.
His initial interest in painting was fired by the Impressionists, Van Gogh and the more avant-garde Expressionists such as Heckel and Kirchner. Although these and many other artists continue to inspire, Phil's main inspiration now comes directly from nature: The ever-changing light, the vastness and force of the sea, a cluster of trees in a wood or the full glory of a dramatic sunrise or sunset.
Phil's work has evolved through years of study and experimentation and his current work uses many different techniques that he has developed to create an original and unique style.
Phil also enjoys challenging the viewer, by creating semi-abstract pieces, or works that are open to multiple interpretations.
-'I have a very vivid imagination and I like to create stories in my mind around some of my paintings. I hope the viewer will do the same.'
Phil has successfully exhibited at the York Open Air Art Exhibition and was recently commissioned to provide original artwork for the accommodation block at the National Science Learning Centre in York.
