Estee Roberts
Estee, an aspiring young artist and entrepreneur from York was born in Aberdeen, Scotland, and moved at a young age with her family to York. Her interest in art started when she joined the Minster School in York where she was encouraged to develop her talent and loved it when open day arrived each year for which she had to produce art work for sale, albeit only in the form of 'painted tiles' for coasters!
Thereafter Estee joined St.Peter's School York and felt she had finally arrived! St.Peter's is every young person's dream for anyone who is interested by Art. St.Peter's has the most amazing art facilities and takes The Arts and Culture very seriously. The encouragement given at St.Peter's School, by one teacher in particular (Mr. Chris Hall), was enormous, and helped set her on her way to finally achieve her ambition to go onto College/University and study full time. Estee spent two years at York College studying Fine Art and Design and then embarked on her BA (HONS) Degree in Textile and Surface Pattern Design, through Teesside University, graduating in June 2009.
After graduating, Estee realised that to break into the Art and Design world, with competition so high and the job market hitting rock bottom, she would either have to travel and live in London, or be faced with the possibility of not being able to continue with her dream of being an artist. Having always loved the thought of owning and developing her own business, Estee took up the opportunity of taking over an existing lease that was due to expire on Artfulness, an Art Gallery/Cafe in York. Amie Antoniak, who was the previous owner was delighted with this arrangement. After five years of running the Gallery, Amie felt it was time for her to move on and develop herself more as an Artist, with a view to going on the road with her exhibitions. Amie's work is still been exhibited at the Gallery.
Estee specialises in contemporary floral design for interiors. Gardening is the art that uses flowers and plants as paint, and the soil and sky as canvas. Estee uses watercolour, oil or acrylic paint to create the beauty she sees in the art of the gardener, as designs for wallpaper, fabric and acrylic wall hangings.
